Reflex action

Reflex flow training

Reflex flow training.

No, not the knee jerk kind. One body part having an effect on another due to manipulation. A little like chiropractic. Or pressure applied in a certain spot that redirects energy within the body (I think its extremely mild electrical impulses that have not so mild overall effects) to a place needing the extra energy. Like acupressure. Personally I think acupuncture does the same thing but with thin wires redirecting the impulses instead of applied pressure. And right about here someone says: “What is he talking about?”

SICKNESS AND DEATH … Sirach, chapter 38

1 Make friends with the doctor, for he is essential to you;

God has also established him in his profession.

2 From God the doctor has wisdom,

and from the king he receives sustenance.

3 Knowledge makes the doctor distinguished,

and gives access to those in authority.

4 God makes the earth yield healing herbs

which the prudent should not neglect;

5 Was not the water sweetened by a twig,

so that all might learn his power?

6 He endows people with knowledge,

to glory in his mighty works,

7 Through which the doctor eases pain,

 8 and the druggist prepares his medicines.

Thus God’s work continues without cease

in its efficacy on the surface of the earth.

9 My son, when you are ill, do not delay,

but pray to God, for it is he who heals.

10 Flee wickedness and purify your hands;

cleanse your heart of every sin.

11 Offer your sweet-smelling oblation and memorial,

a generous offering according to your means.

12 Then give the doctor his place

lest he leave; you need him too,

13 For there are times when recovery is in his hands.

14 He too prays to God

That his diagnosis may be correct

and his treatment bring about a cure.

15 Whoever is a sinner before his Maker

will be defiant toward the doctor.

I love Sirach. Everything from prophecy concerning Christ to advice on how to deal with your doctor. God has given us lots of healing options. Some might seem a little strange to the Western mind. By Western I mean European. Strange, like chewing on the inner bark of the Aspen tree to relieve pain. Native Americans did it for centuries. The scientific European mind made a synthetic version. Its called aspirin. Recently I’ve become interested in certain alternative health care options. But, frankly, only the ones I can come up with a logical scenario for. Like the mild electrical impulses I mentioned above. The rest? Well, and not trying to tread on anyone’s toes here, but Bach flower remedies are a good example of something that makes no sense to me. The essence of a flower diluted to the point that it’s nearly nonexistent, or something like that. Makes no sense to me at all. Herbs? Sure, and you could include flowers under that heading easily. But the flower remedy? Well its mixed with 50% water and 50% Brandy. OK, now its starting to make sense. Drink enough flower remedies and yes you’ll probably feel better. At least until morning.

I’ve found some information online, fairly complete, concerning reflexology. Now this I can grasp. Maybe it’s not valid, I don’t know. There’s no real scientific basis for it. But there’s no scientific basis for traditional Chinese medicine either and its been working wonders for the Chinese all these many centuries. I’m considering an online course, just for my own enjoyment and possible benefit. I figure it can’t hurt anything and if it helps, well, thank God for Sirach. 😉
