A Rosary Meditation … The Fourth Joyful Mystery, the Presentation. “According to the Law of Moses , they took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord.” Luke 2:32. Jerusalem. Depending on your source and what you think the names roots are Jerusalem means: “Dwelling of Peace”, “Founded in Safety”, “To Lay a Cornerstone”, “The City of Peace”, “The Abode of Peace”, “Vision of Peace”, “The Holy”, “The Holy Sanctuary”. Lots of alternatives, lots of thoughts, all possibly and probably pointing to the One Mary and Joseph took there. It was the law that they take Jesus there. The old sacrificial law given by God to Moses. The law consisting of those things that were shadows of things to come. All of that’s been revealed and consummated in the One that made His appearance there. Now we live in a Heavenly Jerusalem by way of our hope that someday we’ll be presented there. We live with a better, fuller Sacrifice offered from one end of the world to the other daily and beginning nearly 2,000 years ago in the Upper Room. This Sacrifice will last, along with its results, for all eternity. Christ is our example, Mary takes us to Him by her example, and St. Joseph silently lends his fatherly help. The Dwelling of Peace, the Abode of Peace, the Holy. This is where we need, with all the help just enumerated, to present ourselves spiritually. Why? Well, one obvious reason is to follow Him. But there’s more. If we belong to Him we should want to be with Him. If we love Him we should want to be with Him. And being here and now in Spiritual Jerusalem with Christ, and I’m being literal here, isn’t hard at all. How to do it? First, get out the phone book. You’ll need it to find the literal, physical address if you don’t already know it. Once you have the address you Google directions, get in the car or take the bus or call a cab or better yet catch a ride with a friend (where two or three are gathered together) and go there. Once you get there you’ll walk in, bless yourself with holy water, set in a pew and place yourself before Him there in the Tabernacle. In Jerusalem was the Temple. In the Temple was the Tabernacle. Don’t you know that you are the Temple of God if the Spirit of Christ dwells in you? Setting with Him there you can make a spiritual communion, or, if you time your visit just right, you can make your own personal presentation to the Lord by attending Mass and receiving Him in reality. Welcome to the presentation, welcome to the Temple, welcome to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Welcome to the Dwelling of Peace. Welcome Home.

Today … St. Lucy. The name means “light”, with the same root as “lucid” which means “clear”, “radiant”, “understandable”. Not much is known about her really. There are pious legends. She was a martyr. Where did Lucy find her light, the light she followed unto death because she knew there was a life more real than physical death? “In Him (Jesus) was life, and the life was the light of men.” John 1:4. Lucy presented herself to the Lord and resides with Him in that Heavenly Jerusalem, enjoying the Marriage Supper, living in peace with the Author of Peace. And she got there without Google Maps. How? Simple. She just followed the Way.

John 14:4 & 6b … “And whither I go you know, and the way you know.” “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
